    Hi fellas

Just gone from a 3×9 setup to a 1×10 on the following components:

    Already had Deore cranks

    Superstar NW 32t single cog

Zee m640 shadow plus 32/36 rear mech

    Zee m640 trigger shifter

    Slx hg81 11/3610 speed cassette

    Shimano ten speed chain

So it all went on no problems but having real issues indexing it to how it should.

Set hi and low limit without cable tension

Set cable tension then fine tune with cable adjuster but it jumps from smallest to third cog every time either going up the range or down.

Also when on the biggest cogs it’s very noisy should a 1×10 be like this or have I bought the wrong setup?

It was the zee build kit from CRC

    cheers guys

    D.

A shadow+ has an H adjusted that needs to be set. It sets how fair the guide pully is away from the cassette. You need to shift to the big ring then set a 5mm gap.

Google it if you cant fine id screw

Yeah I’ve set that now and it’s a bit smoother but now wondering if I’ve taken too many links out of the chain, I done big big + 2 rule what you think?

Wow that is very short looking. Also you look to have a short chage mech on 36tooth(??) rear cassette? You should really have a long one.

As you get rear end travel i would think there will be problems. When the rear is compressed the chain will normally get tighter.

Nothing wrong with the mech and gear ratios on the cassette, its designed to work with the 36t (wide range version). Chain looks fine from there (mine looks the same with the same set up – Zee/Xt cassette/34t N/W ring).

Hes right about the sus compressing though, should of let the air out/compressed shock when sizing the chain.

May sound silly, but check which way you have routed the cable through the pinch bolt on the mech, if its the wrong side, it won’t shift correctly and you won’t index either no matter how many times you fiddle with the adjuster. Check the cassette teeth aren’t wonky and throwing the chain in the combos you’re have probs with, check the chain for stiff links as well.

Mines abit noisy, quietens down after a few uses, but still hear it a bit in 1st gear (your N/W ring is thicker than a std one so holds the chain abit tighter laterally).

Yes me zee was the same ish.. But not as streshed as yours. I went to a deore long cage and it now all good. Just set it up this morning and its fine.

Silly question but you have a 10 speed chain right?

yeah its a 10 speed chain, it is the zee mech that covers gear ratio to 36. The chain was 116 links out the packet im gonna add links back on and let air out of shock and re size over the weekend im thinking the chain is too short.

as far as i can see the cable is routed correctly.

see how it goes over the weekend ill have to stop off at LBS tomorrow after work to get some chain link pins and a quick link.
