    Hi all ????

I was until recently very new to bikes. I bought a second hand Carrera vendetta ltd grey/ green initially as something just to keep me occupied during down time, however..

I went out and loved it, instantly got right into the world of mtb, until the front derailleur snapped

Since it’s been off the road I’ve tinkered with it a fair bit, hope V4 brakes, Deore XT cassette mech and shifters, jagwire cable sheaths etc.. but I can’t for the life in me find a derailleur or crankset to fit the BB or front mech with long enough reach.

The problem I’m having is the BB is 100×154.5 square taper English thread. All the post mounted derailleurs I have tried don’t seem to reach far enough to hit the big ring and I can’t find a like for like replacement bb mount for what was on previous (Shimano Alivio hyperdrive 66-69 degree part number FD-M410E)

I have also noticed that the front crank sits a lot further out than rear cassette so the chain seems to be running under strain on anything other than the small cog.

Ideally I’d like to be able to switch to single ring HollowTech (upgrading to 12 at the back) but the crank spindles I’ve seen aren’t long enough.

Any help would be massively appreciated because this is killing what could have been an amazing hobby 🙁 🙁

This forum seems to be pretty quiet!

I’m new to this too so this could be the blind leading the blind!

However I’ve been trying to source a BB for a frame I’ve bought and been doing a bunch of googling..

It seems there’s a common dimension from frame centre line to the middle crank wheel of either 47.5 or 50mm, I believe 50mm is normal for an MTB and maybe 47.5 for road?

So I would check that dimension first, maybe it’s more than 50 on your bike which would mean that your spindle is too long or a different crank set has been fitted which needs a shorter spindle.

Here is a post about it.
