    hi, i got my giant yukon fx3 last thursday. absolutely loving it but. after having been on 2 pretty long bike rides (on and off road) im getting a clicking as i push down on the right, not sure whether its the crank or pedals. after the rides the bike did have a fair amount of sand and sea water over it- surely this cant have knackered something already can it?!?!

    I assumed you cleaned it after the seawater?

    Bearings don’t like sand either.

    What sort of BB is it?

    Check bolts for tightness.

    It’s not uncommon to destroy external or ISIS BB bearings in one ride in certain conditions.

    yeah i gave it a good wash afterwards. the book says its a cartridge bb – no specifics. what are my options as replacement bb’s? the crank is a truvativ ISOflow 3.0 22/32/44

    The Campagnolo bottom-bracket in my Dyna-Tech is still perfect (not a hint of roughness – even with cranks off, & no greasing!) after almost 15 years

    The Shimano in the ‘yellow bike’ has been greased once in its 7 years of use (including snow, ice & torrential rain)

    As stated, it’s not just ‘bedded in’ & worked loose has it??, loose cranks creak.

    According to this it’s a traditional square taper.

    I’d go with more likely to be something else like above.

    If it were ISIS or external BB then a different issue.

    Do you jetwash your bike? BB don’t like that at all.

    … or they don’t really like it when some old fart rides through a 80-yard long test ditch full of water over 2 foot deep on a deserted MVEE test track to prove a point! 😳 😳 😳

    no i havent and wont jet wash it, i give it a good rinse with a low pressure hose pipe and even that is never directed at the bearings. if it has worked loose due to not bein ‘bed in’ yet. how do i tighten up if possible? maybe i should have just bought the yukon fx1… ill be replacing the pedals shortly tho probably for dmr v8’s as they’re free when you subscribe to MBUK so i guess that will confirm whether or not it is the bb. how much are we lookin at for a reasonable replacement/upgrade on the bb?

    As it’s square taper just buy the a shimano one. Probably around the £20 mark. UN73.

    You’ll need to know the width of the BB shell 68mm or 73mm and the length of the spoindle your currently using. It might be stamped on the BB but you may have to remove it to find out or get some calipers and measure across it with the cranks off

    Its not just me then! i picked up my specialized FSRxc on tuesday and have used it three time on some very short road rides to get a feel for it and its developed cruching noise/feeling through the pedels, does this sound like the bearings have gone/going/loose?

    i cleaned and regreased it last night but i can still feel a slight crunching through the pedels.
