That’s a scary average speed. It’s making me tired just thinking about it.

I wouldn’t expect any less from the cheating drug-fuelled barsteward. he shouldn’t even be competing. Should have been bannned for life.

But actually that average speed isn’t all that good. Even the decent UK time trail riders do a faster average speeds over 100 miles. The top boys such as Michael Hutchinson do 100 miles in less than 3 hours 25 minutes. Don’t know what that ave speed is but it’s much, much faster.

As for his top speed I actually went a little bit faster in the Alps last year. About 51-52mph if I recall correctly.

    So, there you go, he’s no great shakes after all 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

Average of 29.27mph, if my maths is correct.

In 1984, my friend and I rode a tandem event on the H25/2 where there was a prize for the fastest measured one mile downhill from Handy Cross on the A404 ‘ski-slope’. We did it in 1minute 3seconds averaging just over 57mph …. and we didn’t win it. 😕

Good job I was on the back, as I had my eyes closed praying all the way. Used 66 x 12 all the way and could really have done with a bigger gear! 😛

And Michael Hutchinson did 01:35:27 for a 50-miler. So that’s well over 30mph. Incredible.

Compares well with Wiggo’s 17.58 national record for 10 miles at 33.40mph and Chris B’s 45.57 for 25 miles at 32.64mph, the 25 being set on a fixed wheel in 1993 and still remaining unbeaten!

Well, both riders were Olympic gold medallists at the time. 8)
