Bad news my cheery cycling chums…………. 🙄 🙄
Came across this information today, and will try to post a link to somewhere that may have more data, but also in light of Harry’s near miss, or “SMIDSY”, it’s particularly relevant. 😯
“Cyclists Toll Rises………….
The number of cyclists killed or badly hurt on the roads soared this Spring, official figures showed yesterday.
Deaths and serious injuries in April to JUne 2009totalled 820– a 19 per cent rise on the same period last year.
Slight injuries also rose 9 per cent this Spring, the D.O.T. revealed……………………………….
But the overall number of people killed on the roads in April to June this year totalled 580, fractionally down on 586 in that period in 2008″
GULP ❗

The thing that really got me about today’s near miss (and I’m not exaggerating how close I was to a REALLY bad accident) was how the woman genuinely thought it was ‘just one of those things’.
I’m still seething that I didn’t take her registration number and report her to the police. Although I’m sure they’d do bugger all.
What I should have done is reached through the window and took her keys out of the ignition.
I suppose I should be pleased that I’m still in one piece.
Another endorsement for those tyres that I’m always going on about. They really are incredible in the wet.

Gunner, we are doing a bit about this on the show tomorrow. Are you free any time between 11 and 2? Would you like to contribute to the piece. It’s very topical what with my accident and the report. You can either come into the studio or we can do it by phone.
Offer is open to anyone else. Or could you please ring into the show and comment if you fancy

Actually be very pleased you did not do that. Despite a similar level of righteousness in an incident I was involved in it was considered to be theft and for a while the police were trying for a prosecution…..
