Danby ride today…..perfect
-
hi Guys,
I was up bright and early today as the missus it at her Mothers, so i had the day to myself to play.
Left the car at Yarm station and crossed the roundabout and took that little road on the rhs that leads up to Middleton on leven, then Rudby, turned right towards Stokesley, managed to pass Westbrooke’s without spending anything 😆 😆 and then headed up the back lane to Kirby and Great Broughton, Ingleby Greenhow and on to Kildale.
By this time it was about 10:00 ish and I had to stop and take off the baselayer I was wearing cos the weather was soooo hot! 8)
Climbed up past New Row and took the right at the top of the bank down to Westerdale and that Farmhouse that has all the toilets outside 😯
The climb up from there wasn’t too bad and the weather was gorgeous, for the first time in ages I was wearing my HRM so it was interesting to see what effect the climbs were having on the “old ticker” 😳
At the top, it drops down toward Hob Hole, I took the road on the rhs just before it dropped into the ford at hob hole cos that leads along to Dibble bridge and the naughty”2 step” climb, just as I was riding along that road I heard some motorbikes coming up behind me, so I cranked my neck around to have a gawp 😯 , well bugger me, it was 4 of my mates out for a ride so i waved and they stopped for a natter, after the usual piss-taking session, “lycra-pervy” “shaved legs” etc they couldn’t believe the weight of my bike when they were mucking about with it.
“Oh, that’s nothing I said, don’t you know that Harry’s is a lot lighter than mine, you must be the only one’s he hasn’t told!! 😀 😀 ”
So they said that they were going to the tea shop at Danby, “Oh, so am I ” I said.
They told me that by the time I got there, they would have eaten all the scones and cakes etc and were having a good laugh at my expense ( as usual 🙄 ) so I set off before them as they had to get there helmets back on.
I went like buggery down the bank to the bridge, but sure enough, they went scooting past me on the climb up from Dibble bridge, waving at me, or making some kind of rapid hand moving gesture I think it was 😕
So I cracked on and made the climb, and when I was dropping down the bank into Danby, I saw them all waiting at the side of the road as one of them had stopped to fill up with petrol.
Ha-Ha! I thought, and got my head down and cracked on, convinced they were gonna pass me at any minute, but I not only got to the tea shop before them, but I also had time to place my order and was sat outside waiting for them to turn up 😀 😀
So it is gonna give me great satisfaction to tell all my other mates where they work ( Flymo lawnmowers ) that I beat these 4 on there motorbikes to Danby tea shop 😆 😆 😆
After a coffee a country slice and an almond slice ( Lush 😉 ) I headed off back the way I came, still cracking weather, and I seemed to get back to Yarm in no time, although it was getting to be quite a head wind on the way back.
The stats :-
51 miles
3 hrs 17 mins
15. 4 mph ave
37. 5 mph Vmax
145 bpm average heart rate
171 bpm max hr
2,860 calories burnt.
I think its a fair average considering the amount of climbing and the head wind, but it was just a fantastic day for it! 😀
It doesn’t get any better than that!!
Oh, hang on a minute, ❓ just to save Harry the bother of typing it, he may as well cut and paste this :-
” It does if your riding a Pinarello Prince!, blah,blah, etc 😆 😆 😆 “
Getting to know how predictable you are now Harry, see!
Jason said that you had been in the shop today and had “nothing to say”
sarcastic bugger eh?? 😆 😆
Was looking at those Garmin 305’s Harry, you’ll have to give me a demo.
Cheers,
Colin

nice one Colin, you definately chose a good day for it ! Seems a good avg speed considering some of those climbs ! Must have been great beating your mates to Danby 😆
No riding for me today, needed a few days off! …. don’t worry Harry, another cut and past for ya…..
“a few days off? I manage ok, and im old enough to be your dad! 😆 😆 ” 😉
Just busting your balls harry 🙂

Nice ride Colin. I really like riding over there. I also really like the tea and cakes at the cafe at the Moors Centre!

Great write up Colin, enjoyed that. 😀
When you’d posted the other day about Danby, I naturally presumed with it being the weekend you’d be doing something out there on the MTB, not the roadbike.
Good average speed too, considering the climbs, I always find Dibble Bridge climb a real toughie for some reason.
Like Greg, I gave the legs a day off today. 😳

Hey, you guys need to stop busting my balls and try busting your own balls. 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

I’m dissapointed 😥 that’s a bit of a tame reply from you Harry 😆 😆
