Sick of wasting your time and money buying and riding mountainbikes?

If you’ve won the lottery and have nothing better to do on a wet afternoon in Derby why not visit Parkway VW (main dealer) to buy a wiper blade or two for a 2008 Polo.

    It goes like this:

t=0 : Walk smartly into the parts dept. to find it unmanned. Press the bell on the counter marked “Press for service” and hear it ring in room next door where activity can be heard.

t=1 minute: Man enters room through door from workshop and asks if you are being served.

On being told you aren’t, he leaves through side door into next room and can be heard to tell someone that a customer is waiting. You don’t see him again.

t=2 minutes; Study the tastfully grey painted but otherwise bare walls.

t=3 minutes; Study the computer screen saver.

t=3 minutes 10 sceonds; Wistfully remember the good old days when they at least had girlie calendars on the walls to pass the time.

t=4 minutes; Consider calling VW on your mobile to ask to be put through to parts dept and establish that they are still alive or at least what they are doing in the room next door that is more important that serving a customer. Decide not to because you are hoping for a bit of discount.

t= 5 – 9 minutes: Consider which make of car you will buy next and where from.

t=10 minutes: Decide what it won’t be and where you won’t buy it.

t= 11 minutes: Second man comes into room, goes to his desk and sits down before looking up and asking if you are being seen to. ( I confirm that I am not invisible and I was not hiding below the counter at the time he came in) On being told you are not he heaves himself from his chair and comes to serve you.

NB: This is the bit where it helps if you are sitting down (although there is no chair) or have had a recent lottery win.

On asking for the price and availability of Polo wiper blades he establishes that they cost:

    £18!

    Each!!

    Plus VAT!!!

And NO you can’t have any discount for trade, cash, wasting ten minutes of your time waiting, or for any other reason !!!!

Sutably chastened – you leave empty handed passing through the showroom, pausing only to look at a new Passat Estate where a salesman approaches you within one second to ask if he can do anything for you…..

    Bike shops give great service.

    Bikes and bits are cheap.
