    Evening all

I’ve signed up to do this in September

    http://www.durhambigride.co.uk/index.asp

Doing it as a charity ride with a few lads from work. Its only 25Miles but we are being sponsored for Help for Heroes so its a worthy cause.

Think I might have a go at this…

Just printed 5 forms off, I will ask the lads while we sit in the tents after a few beers on Friday night. Just before we hit Marin Trail !!!

I can do this on my MTB??

    Nice one fellas

The great thing about this is you can do it on a road bike, MTB, BMX or unicycle. Just an excuse for a good day out. 😆

Looks like ‘THE BEAST’ has been cancelled.

Just checked the route for the 25 Miler and part of it looks like its on an old railway line???? 🙁

I’m still doing it on my road bike but won’t be happy if I get any punctures!!!! 😥

According to the website the council couldn’t get insurance as it couldn’t be policed. 😥

    Evening all

Completed the Durham Big Ride today. Good day out and reasonably well organised. 🙂

Although the ‘Beast’ (50 miles and very hilly) was cancelled it looks like a few did it anyway without the marshalls. 🙂

Did the Big Ride (25 miles) on my road bike and was pleased to see a few other road bikes dotted about the mountain bike dominated crowds.

However I soon regretted this as a large chunk of the course was off road 🙁 . I had checked with a couple of the lads I was doing it with who had rode the course last year if a road bike would be suitable for the off road part. Their reply was that it was only a short part of the course and in reasonable condition.

Turned out to be a gravelled dirt track and every half mile or so I passed someone repairing a puncture 😥

Amazingly I survived the ride puncture free 😯 although I’ve no idea how. And bearing in mind riding on gravel and the ride being a bit stop/start at road junctions I comleted the ride in 1hour 54 minutes Average speed 13MPH.

We all raised some money for Help for Heroes and I will be back next year 😀 (Either the Beast on my road bike or I’ll be investing in a MTB)

    Cheers
