Hi, can anyone shine some light on fines for previous owned cars.

Basically sold a car on the 2nd September. DVLA slip was sent off straight after.

The numpty who bought the car was clocked for driving in a bus lane in central London on Essex Road on the 5th September.

Obviously had a reply from DVLA saying that I am no longer the registered owner which was printed on the 9th September according to the receipt.

Obviously it would have taken a couple of days sent in the post and to be processed.

Also I sent proof of my insurance for the sold car removed on the 20th August to a new car.

And on the day of the speeding fine 1.44pm on Friday in Central London. I was at a house viewing in Aylesbury – a good 1 hour and half for a viewing at 2pm with proof from estate agent.

Will they be total bastards about it?

Haven’t any experience of this, but your argument is perfectly reasonable and one would assume you should have no problems, just on the basis of the dates you supplied as regarding the DVLA transfer slip.

On the 5th September the slip must have been undergoing processing for you to recieve the notification, surely.

It may take a call or two to sort it, but don’t worry about it 😉

I had a similar issue where I bought a motorcycle and 9 days after I bought the bike I got a speeding fine in the post I was not happy and sat looking at the letter thinking how did I get caught. Then I looked at the date and checked my V5 and fine was issued 2 days before I bought the bike so I sent off a photocopy of my V5 showing transfer date and I never heard anything more about it. As long as you can show that it wasn’t you then you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for putting mind at ease. Got an email last night from the Islington council who have decided on review of evidence reviewed they have ruled I was not the driver so all good!

    Back to the bikes now…..
