Can’t believe this but the course of the UK’s only sportive on closed roads, Etape Caladonia, was sabotaged today by someone who chucked loads of carpet tacks on various points on the course. FFS what is the point of this. Link to a bit from the cycling weekly website below.

I know Colin (Poucher) was riding today. Hope he managed to get round OK.

    Thanks for that link.

That is absolutely unbeleivable, especially whe you consider that this was in essence a “charity” event, to raise money for cancer support.

Lots of guys, including Colin, and Peter, Vinces mate, travelled a significant distance to be able to do this, let’s hope they weren’t affected.

    Complete idiots 🙁

Just exchanged a few texts with my mate Pete, who as Gunner said travelled up from Harrogate for this event. He was doing realy well upto the 50 fifty mile point averaging 20mph and then suffered 3 punctures before the ride was stopped,he ended up having to walk a good distance 😥 I havn’t spoke to him yet,but will get the details tomorrow.

Make sure you let us know what he had to say Vince.

That’s a good average for that distance as well, he was obviously going to come in with a good time, he must be devestated. All that travelling and hard effort to be completely wasted by some mindless morons.

Strange how things work out Guys,

I actually came down with a stinker of a cold last week, and felt totally wrecked, so decided on Wed night to cancel the hotel for Pitlochry and not go 🙄

In retrospect it may have not been such a bad decision, ok, I’ve lost my 40 odd quid start money, but I’d have been really pissed if I’d turned up and then wrecked 100 quids worth of tubs and not finished.

There’s a lot of talk about this over on the bikeradar website, even saying that 2 police motorbikes had to be trailered away with punctures.

Could have seriously injured or killed sombody, cos the descent down from the Scheallion mountain is long and fast, 40 mph +, so I think a lot of peoples weekend have been ruined.

The vast majority of people last year were great, cheering and egging you on, but there were a few farmers and old spinster types protesting about not being able to get to church would you believe.

Think I’ll pass on this one next time and take my money elswhere.

P.S. hope to get all this green “glue” out of my head and chest so I can make Wed night ride 😥

Think you might have been lucky in not being able to go Colin.

Do you fancy the Richmond Sportive on Saturday instead?

    Colin

I think a lot of people will be doing exactly that.

Don’t these people see the economic suicide they are committing.

All the entrants for the event, people who may be supporting them, people who are just coming to watch, etc., etc., all adds up up to a real economic boost for the local area.

The whole thing just beggars belief, I can’t believe that there can be individuals out there who could take tis sort of action.

Don’t think I’ll bother signing up for anything for the rest of the month Steve till I get feeling 100% ( probably never happen 😆 )

I’ll see how I get on Wed night.
