Guys, can someone give me a few tips on general cleaning and maintenance…

cleaning the disc brakes is 1st concern, do they need any treatment after cleaning, im using Muck off to clean all the bike and then spraying the chain with GT85……is there anything else i should be doing or avoiding, its got suntour xtr forks and ive been told they are a sealed unit and shouldnt need much looking after ???

well i’d keep the gt85 stuff away from the discs most defantly. and maybe treat the chain/mechs etc to some proper lube every now and again

i dont do anything to my disc brakes although i think i should be…

not sure about the forks tbh

some guy told me that wd40 is death to a bike because it works its way into everywhere, is that true and do you just use the gt85 on the chain and crank ?

i dont use gt85, just lube the all the stuff

isnt gt85 very simlar to wd40, not sure 😕

on the winter road bike we spray the whole bikes with wd40 as the salt thats on the road kills them…

Sounds like an urban myth to me. WD40 is a penetrating oil cant see how that could cause any damage may not be as effective as a bike specific oil though

WD40 will break down the grease in any bearings so should be kept away from them area’s

GT85 is bad for bearings so don’t spray directly at hubs/bb etc. It’s not very effective as a chain lube either as it gets washed off too easily. It’s good for a water dispersant but then you need to wipe off the excess and add a thicker chain lube.

Disc brakes just need cleaning with water and leaving alone generally. Under ongoing maintenance giving them a good clean and pumping out the pistons (but not all the way) and cleaning then lubing with oil or the relevant brake fluid.

Suspension forks should have suspension oil on the stanchions after every ride then the forks cycled to distirbute it a bit. Not many people bother. Also the seals should be popped up and cleaned under and around. Again not many people bother. The fork manual should be referred to for each fork if it bothers you to see what they recommend.
