at the end of a custom bike build using a cannondale solo fork (bad boy) with a jamis single speed. the fork fits the frame fine but am missing the seal and crown race at the bottom. i think the crown race is integratednot required on the fork so it’s just the seal. there’s a gap of 1mm – can’t seem to find the right seal – do headset protectors like the lizard skins work ok?

They may do, but I would be concerned with the compression of the headset, without the race. you may be putting undo pressure on the crown.

If you already have a normal (non split) race on the fork, you should be OK though.

You should be able to buy the split race and lower seal, or steal them off a cheap headset – like AEST
