HHi, new to this cycling forum and needing some help/advice! Here goes, my lad got a merida matts 20 mtb off his mate, it needs some tlc, its a 24 speed but its got a rear wheel with 7 speed cassette. The deureiller isnt the original and theres no hanger, its just held on with the wheel nut! The original deureiller im lead to believe is an shimano acera x! What is compatible shimano wise? I need a new rear wheel with 8 speed cassette and also a chain too! I know its probably not worth a wank but wanting to put it right so i can cycle to work as bought the lad a new one! Cheers and ready for a whipping😢😢👍 fire away

If it’s only for cycling to work just save yourself the hassle & buy a cheap new bike, otherwise eBay will be your best bet to pick up the parts. You’ll be able to pick up a replacement hanger & derailleur on there

Echo what’s said above, probably be cheaper and easier to just buy a second hand bike in reasonable working order and go from there. By the time you’ve paid for a new rear wheel, casstte, hanger, etc., it’ll all add up.
