    Hi all

So basically, last Sunday I was out biking in Woburn, came off and dropped down about eight foot onto my side. The resulting damage was a bruised pelvis, ruined shoulders and set a bruised ribs on my right side.

Well my ribs are the only things still aching. I am dosed up on paracetamol and ibuprofen, but cannot sleep properly, waking up at least four times a night in pain…

During the day it’s not too bad, unless i’m doing something awkward.

But if i try and train (i.e running at all) it goes nuts again so I cant go far…

    Basically, my question is…

…Is there a way of speeding up the recovery? Or should I just avoid doing almost everything?

If so, does anyone know typically how long this takes to pass?

don’t do any lifting and give it a couple of weeks,

have you been to see GP as you could have fractured or broken a rib(s)

generally after a couple of weeks you should be feeling better.

    Thanks for the reply

Yeah, I went to see them last week, and they confirmed it wasn’t broken (or wasn’t likely to be) and advised I just dose up on over the counter drugs.

Unfortunately my job includes a lot of manual handling but nicely my colleagues are being very helpful with this and I’m getting it pretty easy at the moment so I getting to avoid quite a bit of it.

Was hoping to find a way to speed up the process but it’s not looking possible 🙁

Very painful area when damaged and takes a long, time to recover from in my experience, damaged my ribs 3 times, once fractured, twice very badly bruised.

Breathing hurt, lifting hurt, not lifting hurt, sitting hurt, you get the picture, rest is the only thing.

Yeah, you don’t really realize how much movement is in the area until you cant use it properly. Like you say, pretty much everything hurts, but the main problem is sleeping, haven’t slept through a whole night since I did it.

And that’s just bruising, can’t imagine what fracturing must be like.

Done my ribs a few times. I could ride on the road within a few days, but couldnt do any hills as deep breathes realy hurt. Probably about 4-6wks to get off road, with 8-12 wks for them to settle down fully.
