… this ‘missing link’ thingy from chains? :chinscratch:

Rather than do my usual ‘bin it and rivet it’ exercise, for the first time I actually used the split link in my 9-speed SRAM chain. OK, inserting it was easy but removing by hand – impossible! Can’t even do it with pliers.

    Must you:-

    1. Open and close it a few times before actually fitting it, to loosen it?

    2. Jiggle it sideways to get it out or just get Arnold Schwarzenegger over to do it by hand?

    3. Bend the chain into a ‘Z’ shape?

    4. Go to Plan A and bin it?

    TIA

I have always found it difficult using two hands, strangely, I find it much easier using one hand.

Thumb on one side of the link, 2nd finger on the other side. Push outwards with your thumb, pull in with your second finger.

Of course it depends which way round you have the link, you might have to pull in with the thumb and push out with the finger.

Be careful like, it traps the skin of your finger some times 😯

You might want to lube that link and dry off any excess to prior to removal.
