I notice that they, “The Government”, are proposing to change the law regarding the National Speed Limit on Rural Roads.

They argue that there is a valid case for proposing a reduction to 50 mph in rural areas…….. 😯 😯

I could now be in danger of being caught speeding on my road bike. 😯 😯

As you know, there’s a lot of places out on those Moors where you can hit “terminal velocity”, Birke Brow for one, the descent from Ralphs Cross to Westerdale, is another, Ralphs to Castleton is a third……………

Are any of you in danger…………. ❓

I love the decent from Ralph’s Cross to Castleton, especially trying to trigger the electronic sign telling you to slow down :D.

The only time I have topped 50 mph was dropping down Fleet Moss towards Hawes. Everything was OK until I looked at the computer and saw it tick past 50. That is when I started to think that 50 mph on two bits of 23mm rubber is quite scary.

yep i allways hit 40… and usualy 50 as well round here…

but the best challenge is the speed camera down one of the realy steep hills… all the cyclists try to set it off and loads have, its not just going fast tho, you’ve got to be in the right position in the road…

ps, sualy its better for us if they lower the limit..

But is it………….., surely it won’t stop the “real” danger drivers who pose the biggest threat to cyclists, such as those who’ve just left the pub after 5 or 6 pints safe in the knowledge that rural roads are rarely policed, or the vauxhall Nova crammed full of “yoofs” high on Crystal Meth who want to get 5 “points” for hitting a cyclist………….. 🙄 🙄

Not to mention the perfectly straight wide single carrageway roads that are currently safe at 60+ that will be restricted to 50 due to a crazy blanket limit. Big brother thinks it knows best again. Thin end of the wedge 👿
