Did an epic solo ride yesterday. Started 02.50 am from my place (Heathrow) and rode to Brighton and back, about 130 miles. All planned on the spur of the moment Friday p.m. after seeing a programme about an extreme cyclist – the early start was so that I could be back in time for Alpe D’Huez on telly.

Mostly via A24 / A29 / A281 and the lanes apart from the last 4 miles there. Arrived about 08.00, despite getting lost twice. 🙁

Return run the same way and arrived back at 13.05, so 10.25 hours for the lot, including stops.

Felt OK going down – I was taking it a bit easy as I was unsure of the return run. Both North and South Downs weren’t too bad. I was going to do this on my 60th birthday in October but as the weather was nice ….. 8)

I used to do this every Cup Final day in the 1960s but in those days, the A23 was a sensible road rather than a dragstrip.

All done on my rigid Marin Pine Mountain with 1.2 Conti tyres. Feel like I’ve done some this weekend!
