We have decided that constantly paying the bridge toll to go mountain biking in Wales and the Forest of Dean is getting too much so the only reasonable course is to move. We are just about to make an offer on a lovely little house in the forest of dean, the woods are less than 100m from the house so I will have mountain biking right on the doorstep!

Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly but I’m starting to remember just how stressful it was buying this house…

WOW, moving soley for the purpose of Mountain biking, that’s commitment. And if you have a wife who’s willing to move too she deserves some sort of holiday. . . Might I suggest Glamping in FOD 😆 😆

Well maybe it was a bit of an exaggeration to say I was moving purely for mountain biking 😆

But in all honesty we have found our family lifestyle has taken a large shift towards being outside more often, for us it does make sense to move to an area to take advantage of that.

Houses in the FoD are cheap too, we are upsizing from a 2 bed end of terrace with a tiny garden and no garage to a 3 bed semi with a big garden and a garage and the new house will cost less than we will sell ours for…

As for work, I’m a Civil Engineer working as a Site Agent (I run construction sites, I’m currently managing a motorway bridge repair scheme near Gloucester). I have to travel to where the work is anyway, the FoD has easy access to South Wales and Gloucestershire without having to worry about the bridge toll. If I do end up on a site in Bristol then I will get another motorbike so I don’t have to pay the bridge toll 😉

Things are moving, in the last week we have accepted an offer on our house and have made an offer on a place in the Forest! (a different house as the first one fell through, this one is much nicer)

There are trails about a minutes ride from the front door 😀

I’m very lucky too – I live within 2 miles of the start gate of the Dog on Cannock Chase, there’s even a dedicated trail from the Town centre up to Birches valley. Good luck with the move – it’s bloody brilliant living near a big forest. 🙂

The view from our bedroom isn’t too bad…

I’ve not managed to get out for an explore of the local woods yet but I can’t wait to get out for a blast!

    I’ve been exploring! 😀

All within easy pedalling distance and there is plenty more that I’ve not found yet!

I have old trails which need a bit of maintenance right by my house, an old quarry which is prime for a bit of a jump spot, miles and miles of gravel trails to string together big rides, some absolutely cracking off piste singletrack, lung bursting climbs and an entire trail centre all within a few miles. I’m a happy, happy biker!
