Today I refurbished my mate Dave’s old Kona Kikapu Deluxe (what an unfortunate name lol).
It was very tired, although the shock and forks seem ok still so I didn’t do anything to them.
Stripped off all the Alvio shyte….
He bought some wheels off ebay, xt hubs / xt rims, so fitted a new cassette (9sp) to them. Got some skewers too as his old wheels were solid axle & nuts.
New KMC chain, and fitted my old external BB (it had a square taper in). Put my old hollowtech2 deore cranks on and … damn, forgot his BB shell is 68mm and mine was 73mm, and not needing the spacers I chucked them away when I bought new saint crank for my other bike …. Oh well, thanks to ARROW CYCLES near Lincoln, they had some spacers.
Wne to put some Truativ bars I had lying around on his old stem, and damn, his was only 27.something mm and the bars were 31.8mm, so back to ARROW CYCLES again lol, new stem (cheapo Giant one £15), and got new bars on, brake levers, thumbshifters, and grips fitted. Put my old Moove pedals on too.
Just needs a few tweaks to get everything running smoothly adjust calipers and gear index, chainline looks ok.
He had a back operation a few weeks ago, and has been itching to get out and do some exercise to get back in shape.

Very nice indeed. One of my fave Kona paint jobs too.
Those forks would have to go though, if it was mine 😉
