Well that escalated quickly! A quick look at the wheel bearings after I heard strange noises over on my last Surrey Hills ride turned into all the pivot bearings coming out & found to be fecked! And an axel bolt ruined.
I now have ½ a bike for a while until I can get a new bolt and a replacement bearing kit.
The wheel bearings are fine.
I’ve never removed or fitted bearings before and even with help today from the fitters at work it was a real palaver!
Sooo! I’m a little worried about messing the new ones up when I replace them but the price of a bearing press to fit all 4 different sizes would be more than getting the LBS to do it for me…
I’ve seen a few homemade presses… but was wondering what your experiences of home made presses were & have you got any pics of yer own?

I did mine myself, and ordered both the replacement bearings + bushings kit from FELT (my bike has an equilink / T-bone thingy with bushings in), and also the official FELT tool kit to do the job.
Well, the tool kit was basically the same as what some other members on here have ‘bodged’ together to do the same job on their bikes.
It’s basically a couple of long bolts, with metal cups (which are similar to the sockets on a socket set), and a few spacers / washers etc.

The bearings were actually not too bad to do on mine, it was the bushings that were a pain.
If your careful, a flat-blade screwdriver is as good as anything for tapping out the old bearings (from the opposite side. The main pivot in mine was the trickiest – http://i481.photobucket.com/albums/rr173/DJ_Nik_Gnashers/Top%20Pivot%20Bearing_zpsrixp3da1.jpg
The bushings you can justs ee inside the hole in the T-bone here, man these were a bitch and no way without the ‘tool kit’ to do these – http://i481.photobucket.com/albums/rr173/DJ_Nik_Gnashers/436DB74B-26FB-4ABC-86C2-CB498EC0ED4C_zps19txwusw.jpg
I know how you feel though, it’s a bit of a task doing them, and especially frustrating when your bike look slike yours or mine does – http://i481.photobucket.com/albums/rr173/DJ_Nik_Gnashers/87FEE45F-4977-4503-87F1-1B1F7B8DB220_zpsu8svp1px.jpg
