    Generating interest for a charity ride….M/Boro Town hall to York Minster via the good old NYM…..following NCN65.

    The route is the first half of the White rose cycle ride M/Boro – Hull via NCN65 – 66.

    65 miles in total and I’ve fancied doing it for a while for charity….could be another ’08 summer ride. 😉

    Will be a one way ride, returning by car or train. Of course celebratory drinks will be in order…..will be open to everybody on the forum and to friends and family….sound good? let me know. 😉

    Fantastic idea Denny, any members reading this or non members just browsing the Forum, why not give this a go?

    First I think we need, or rather you Denny, need to sort out a reputable Charity to whom we can pledge our support, then, what about some press coverage, only needs to be a little peice in the Gazzette or the Herald and Post, mention you and MTBE, and thirdly, what about trying to bring BIKETRAKS on board?

    Maybe BIKETRAKS T-shirts could be worn, maybe they could donate some FREE water bottles and carbo drinks or something else. Maybe a few digitimal images of Biketraks staff making a donation to you and your charity under the umberella of MTBE might look good posted on a lot of other cycling/newsmedia websites?

    I’m only airing a few thoughts here to make the ride seem possibly more productive under a “Charity Ride” banner.

    What do you think?

    Some great ideas there Gunner…never thought about getting biketraks on board!!!

    The big problem comes when selecting a charity as there is so many worthy causes out there it would be hard to choose!

    As for media coverage…DEFINITELY! Could look at local and national radio, local TV and obviously the forums. I’m hoping we get a few off MTBE to join in this one.

    No dates are set as yet but it could possibly be August time see how things go. 😉

    Just another thought, Denny, and a bit of “Blowing your own trumpet”, but why not on a venture like this?

    Why not get your employers on board, a bit of free publicity for them as well!

    Perhaps they could do a “matching funds donation”, some companies can do this as part of their Tax Break allowances etc., i.e., if you raise £300, then your employerr donates £300, great PR event for employer and they can use creative accountancy. Also, why not get your photo in any staff magazine your company runs and an article covering what you and company have achieved, always a good tool when it comes to pay rise time!! 😉 😉 😉

    Would love to get Arriva NE on board, but I’ve heard they won’t entertain fundraising of any sort (unless it’s in their own pockets of course!!) so I’m afraid that one is out of the window.

    So Denny, we’ll have to try and fix a date and decide on a charity for this ride because the sooner we get it sorted the sooner we can begin raising money, finding sponsors & publicizing it. 🙂

    I’m open to suggestions for charities…..as for a date all I can say at the moment is August possibly Sept will have to see when my holidays are (as they’re allocated too me). Date will be posted in the next few weeks then we can get the ball rolling (quickly) 😉

    Yeh yeh thats fine Denny, its just to give me an idea for now so I can spread the word, and as for charities I have no idea either, although Cancer Research always seems to draw a lot of attention.

    Theres a website called Cafepress.com, and they let you make your own cups/t-shirts etc – I was thinking that maybe we could get a few of these made specially for the ride.

    For example, you designa t-shirt, and they set a base rate of lets say $15. Then you add your amount on top of that which you want to make in profit, so we could sell the t-shirts with say a couple of quid profit, and all money raised goes to the charity.

    One possible charity is “Zoe’s Place” http://www.zoesplace.org/ as it’s local the local media will probably be interested.

    Some of the lads I work with did the C2C for them a couple of years ago and every pic took they had a Zoe’s lace T-Shirt on.

    Zoes Place is another charity which always brings up a lot of interest, and its another one for a good cause. Looks like its time for a poll! 😆
