OMG! 😯 I’m off work both those dates 😀
I’ve always wanted to do Back o’Skiddaw. Had a look at the route and it seems you’ve missed out the summit. 😉

You coming along then?
Isn’t the only way to (legally) do the summit on a MTB an out & back? I’m sure I saw somewhere a thing about a bunch of people on big downhill bikes pushing up to the top, then blasting back down 😈

I’ll have to get a pass but should be able to make it.
Yeh, I think the summit bid is a push up with blast back straight back down. Only mentioned it for fun…..unless……that’s what you want to do!? 😈
Has anybody done Skiddaw summit by bike that you know?

Knew I’d seen a thread on it somewhere – turns out it was on my own site!
“2hrs up, 20 mins down” 😈
Think we’ll stick with the loop around, although the guy mentioned in that thread from ridethelakes did the back o skiddaw loop, then the out & back to the summit, so if you are feeling fit after the loop…… 😀

Free for both days at the moment I think. Skiddaw gets my vote too. Currently hacking old mbr mags up to get the route guides out – will find this one and have a read up on it!

OK guys, the date has been set as the 21st – I’ve updated the rides & events section on MTBNE here, so if you are coming, if you could confirm there that would be great (makes it easier to know who is coming on the day and make sure we don’t set off without anyone!).
The route options have been narrowed down to either “Back O Skiddaw” or “Borrowdale Bash”. Both start in Keswick, and details for both are on the event post – if you have a preference let us know!
Cheers

Are any of you guys coming on this ride?
I’ll have space for one bike and rider if you need a lift?

Looks like we have a possible 24 people turning coming to this, so depending on the actual turnout on the day we may split into two groups (as a big group can be quite unmanageable and slows the ride down). Route decision will be made on the day depending on what everyone fancies – Easier Skiddaw ride with option to extend via the summit bridleway or tougher, more technical borrowdale route.
Meet at Keswick Leisure Centre (map here). To get there take the A66, miss the first turn off to Keswick (I think its the A591) and instead carry on to the roundabout, where you take a left onto the A5271 (signed towards keswick).
Take the next left onto Brundholme Road (signed to the leisure centre) and about 1/2 mile up on the right is the leisure centre.
When you pull into the car park, turn immediately left and park in the bays along the old railway line. Get there for 10 aiming to set off for 10.30.
We can see what the feeling is about routes / splitting groups once everyone is there.
