My resting heart rate is very low, 46 bpm or at least it was. I’m sat here typing and it’s 44 bmp and was 42 bpm just a few mins ago. I’ve been working hard on my fitness recently but never seen it this low. Also, I’m hardly resting though I am relaxed and seated. Don’t suffer from low blood pressure or nowt.

Should I be worried or just smug?

I had a fitness test for a gym membership. She said my resting heart rate was so low, i’m almost dead. 🙂 I apportioned that to my laid-back attitude & lifestyle 😉

I’m mostly pretty laid-back. FWIW HR dropped to 40 bpm earlier.

when I was doing my marathon training last winter my resting hear rate was always between 40-50 bpm, even now its often high 40’s to mid 50’s !!! Providing you feel fit and healthy that’s the best indiciator !! 😀

Thought I’d ask at the Surgery and just received a call from the doc who say’s it is a bit low in someone of my age who’s not an elite athlete (maybe I am 8) ) so I should come in for an ECG just as a precaution. So I guess I ought to.

Forgot to update. Doc says I’m really fit (for a fat b@st@rd) which is why my RHR is so low.ECG confirmed this. 😀

The stronger your heart, the less it works, the slower it beats i believe.

Or at least thats how it was explained to me years ago, if you feel fine and have no other issues the only thing you have to worry about is waking up to find you died in the night…… apparently the shock can kill you. 😆

Mines quite low, I had my heartrate monitor on once when I was on nights and when I was sat down around 4:30am it got down to 37bpm. It’s generally round the 43-48bpm mark.

I’m in for surgery next week. Went to the hospital for a pre surgery check and they were concerned that my RHR is 47bpm. They asked if I was active and I said “yes, but not very” but thats as far as it went.

Did some reading online, realised that I was nowehere near elite athlete status to warrant a resting heart rate, spent some time thinking “oh for f**ks sake something else wrong with me”, moped for a bit and now I’ve just back burnered it.

Will probably go to the doc’s in a couple of weeks when I have 5 spare minutes to wipe my arse!

They’ll do an ECG if they are concerned so I wouldn’t worry.
