With great sadness I found that my Whyte had suffered at the hands of its owner – when I fitted a new bottom bracket I must have crossed threads and not noticed. When I took the BB out last week I’ve found that the thread peaks have gone.

The question is….does anyone know if and where I could get a helicoil to suit or do you think its FUBAR???

Think it depends how bad they are, have a word with a decent bike shop they might be able to chase it through.

Thanks – I’ve heard Ride Central in Darlo have a die – but I think it’s too far gone 😥

ahh right, so it like gets the thread back to the normal size after you’ve re drilled it and re tapped it…

will you be able to get one that big for a bb, maybe the shop will be able to just re thread it…

Yes, the threadless unit looks a good solution. Mavic made something similar a few years ago but m-u-c-h dearer.

TBH, at that price, I’d buy one and run it as long as poss. 🙂

Excellent advice everyone, thanks (passed out early last night so sorry for the late response!)

I looked at the threadless BB Matt, but I’d have to change my crankarms too (I’ve got Hollowtech II).

Spoke with a useful lad at BETD just now though and he says they can open it out and fit a helicoil for £ 35, cheers Chris. Now to decide it it’s worth doing…..

…..dropped the Covert off to get powder-coated this morning – she’ll be wearing ex-Whyte kit in a week or so 😀 😀

How much does it cost then?

I’d maybe just get it done and stick it on ebay.
