Am needing to get a new rear mech after bending it around a big rock….the question is, which one?

Currently running a SRAM X9, but would consider an upgrade or a change to XT / XTR.

What is the benefit of making the change or the difference?

    Any comments gratefully recieved !

I dont think SRAM components are compatible with Shimano…

As far as I’m aware, only the lower end components of either range are cross compatable. Changing to Shimano would require new shifters. I’m unsure how it would affect the cassette – you may need to change that to a differently spaced one, someone else may chip in with advice.

can’t see why you’d want to change you’d need a new shifter, X9 is very good and so is the X7 very little difference between them stick with SRAM. 🙂

Expensive ones bend the same as cheap ones. I tend to downgrade to Deore/SLX or X7 if using Sram.

The best rear mech is the one that works best – I’d just replace the old one, unless it was a real pig!

You’d be best sticking with SRAM – X7 or X9. Some of the older (2007 and 2008) ones can be quite cheap and are just as good as 2009’d.

I’m pretty certain you can mix all 9 speed shimano and sram gear, apart from shifters and rear mechs, however shimano rear mech should be comatible with sram attack and rocket shifters.
