Not too bad Johnny, TBH. They’re a friendly lot and one or two still give it large on the hills and stuff.

However, it’s more for tourist types and can’t really be called a chain gang, so if you’re looking for a straight tear-up, don’t go with them. On the other hand, if you like a kind of clubrun atmos, then they may suit you well.

Any decent CTC section will let you join in a few runs before you decide whether or not you fancy joining.

    Cheers for the advice steve.

Going to give it some thought over the coming weeks.

I’ve been a member of the CTC for 20 years now and have found it to be good value. The 3rd party insurance is a must and do fight for safe cycling. The magazine is also a good read.

The CTC is mainly a touring section, with road racing or mtb as a side shoot.

Although, I’m bias towards the touring side of it. I don’t wear a beard, however I have saddlebag. I don’t care what people think of the saddlebag, but I think it’s the best bit of stuff I’ve ever had. Also not to forget, I use a Brooks B17 saddle, how sad is that. On a last note, I ride with Shimano spd sandals 😳

It was the sandals. Right?john, I think the CTC is worth the £36 for the 3rd Party insurance, which works out at £3 a month. Peace of mind, then that’s up to you.

Harry, I can’t see what’s wrong in wearing sandals. I guess you are a roadie, in my case, a tourist and the best at that. 😉

Harry, I can’t see what’s wrong in wearing sandals.

Sandals on a bike are about as sensible IMHO as putting a fish on a bike. Stones in them, more damage if you come off. Then of course there’s the fact that you’ll look like a CTC member 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

I wonder what Harry would think of me, wearing Crocs for cycling 😯 . No doubt I will be wearing these for my forecoming double coast to coast bike ride, the Crocs are the off-road type.

I’ll tell you what I think. Personally, I wouldn’t be seen dead in Crocs. The thought of Crocs on a bike is even more disturbing than sandals on a bike. Do you wear socks with the Crocs and the sandals by any chance?

Harry, you are beginning sound like my Dad. He says the same, you never catch me wearing them stupid crocs or sandals. Anyway, I don’t care what people think of either crocs or sandals, I think there are cool. 8)

Socks, well with sandals – NO! unless I’m touring, in which case, if it’s sunny or fine – NO. If it’s raining, then yes and is the Sealskinz socks

I take the crocs for wearing around the camp-site or going to the pub whilst on a cycle-tour, again depending on the weather, in which case the socks come on.

On a last note, the condition of my feet have greatly improved since I started to wear sandals. It’s funny that years ago, I thought the same thing about sandals, thinking only hippies or high school drop-outs worn them, I was wrong.

I also wear the crocs for shopping, with shorts on. how cool is that. 8)
