Thought I would set up a thread to chat about Le Tour.

The stage today was amazing. Huge effort by Team Highroad to split the peleton in the crosswinds with bout 30 kms to go resulting in just under 30 riders breaking off the front. All 9 Team Highroad riders made the split including Mark Cavendish. The sprint was fairly straight forward for Cav and gives him a second win in a row.

Interesting to see a certain Lance Armstrong make the front split today and get two of his team mates to work to keep the break away. Contador missed the break and lost about 40 seconds to Lance. Tomorrow is the team time trial, after which Lance could be back in yellow.

    Excellent idea Hugo.

Does anyone have any links where “highlights”, “pertinent points”, etc., etc., can be viewed. ❓

There’s suggestions that Hincapie gave him the knod that they were going to try something.

All the other teams must be kicking themselves and I’m suprised Garmin didn’t put some serious work in to get Farrar back up there for the sprint.

More likely Tony Martin will be in Yellow tomorrow than Lance as Columbia will be likely to beat Astana especially if Contador spits the dummy out and sits in at the back to get towed round (can’t see that happening though to be honest he’s not daft). Cancellara will have to an awful lot of work to get his team round fast enough to keep yellow.

    Hi there

Which stage do you guys think will be the most crucial, ie leaders attacking and getting attacked.I see Mont Ventoux is the 2nd from last stage will this sort the men from the boys or do you think the GC will be sorted by then.

    🙂

That was close today. Great ride by Astana to nearly get Lance into yellow. Cancellara did some huge turns on the front to drag his Saxo Bank team round and keep the yellow jersey.

More flat riding tomorrow. Come on Cav!

    Gunner,

ITV 4 everynight at 7:00pm, I’ve got it series linked on the SKY and then I watch it later and fast forward through the adverts, allows you to watch it in half the time! 😀

Will Lance keep this up until Paris, or will the old fella crumble under the pressure from the young bucks ❓

( could be me, you and Harry we’re talking about there 😯 )

Gunner, it could get very expensive to go to Westbrooks everyday to watch it 😉

I’m watching during the week on ITV4 at 7pm too. Eurosport have highlights on an evening too but they move the times around so much I have given up with them. There is also live coverage on Eurosport everyday and I think ITV4 have live coverage on a weekend.

Lance was great at making sure he was 100% ready for the first 3 weeks in July when he won his 7 TdFs. I am pretty sure he will be in the best shape possible. Will be interesting to see what happens when they hit the mountains.

As predictions go that’s up there with

“That internet thing will never catch on”

“That Ronaldo lad will never make a footballer as long as he’s got a hole in his arse”

Easy to say after the event. And besides I was right, Cancellara HAD to do an awful lot of work to keep yellow. It’s not like Columbia missed out by a lot of time either.

I did think Saxo would lose at least twice that time in the stage though.

ITV 4 and Eurosport on the actual telly seem to be the only ways live at the moment.

All the streaming feeds off the internet seem to be blocked geographically so far.

Live Text updates from Eurosport/cyclingnews/velonews for me.

OK then, a prediction before the event: Contador will piss it and Cadel Evans will be in the top three.

I think you’ll find that Cancellara would have expected to do a lot of work. It was a time trial for God’s sake. That’s what you do in a time trial. That is entirely the point of them

Another prediction for you. Lance will be in yellow by the end of today’s stage

Contador for me. He’ll be countering Schlek’s move and accidently dropping Lance in the process ;0)
