…. I’ve taken about 2 weeks to wear out a pair with all my recent mud and slush rides – downhills on technical trails are not really suited to my ‘Mr Fat Ba5tard terrified on rigid Marin with rear brake on’ style.
Anyone able to offer advice as to which ones are good / bad to use as replacements?
See a few Jagwire ones on the Bay, some with red compounds and with varying prices. I kinda prefer the one-piece moulded ones rather than the XT-type slide-in ones.

Mad as it might sound, I picked them up in Tesco for my Marin Eldridge Grade, about £1.10 a set, sometimes less and had absolutely no problem with them in use, just as long as they’re set up correctly then stopping power is fine, and they were quite deep so you get a fair bit of wear out of them.
And as you can probably tell by some of my photo’s on here, it doesn’t stop me taking my Marin over all sorts of routes.
I refuse to be taken in by expensive solutions 😉

I always use the slot in type as it works out cheaper in the long run.
Although at £1.10 it probably won’t.
The last I bought were from Chain Reaction WTB ones for about a £1 a pair of refills.

Towards the end of last year, I wore out a set of Shimano XTR pads in one Cyclo-Cross! (Thornes Park, Wakefield)
I’d replaced them on the Sunday (slide-in/pinned blocks) & they were past the wear-indicators after the race!
Plus, it was only a 45minute Ladies/Veterans event.
That’s the reason I used the Trek MTB when I rode the ‘Cyclists verses Harriers’ last November!, as that could have destroyed them (even without using them)

The reason I use the integrated ones is that I seem to usually balls up putting back the small split pin that holds the blocks in the shoes. 🙁
