Hi all, im getting a boardman 650b HT on the cycle to work scheme soon, i want to upgrade the brakes from the avid elixir 3s that come on it to hopefully elixir 9s or more than likely formula RXs if possible, i know nothing about mtb parts etc have always had bmx’s..would prefer to get on and buy them ready for when the bike turns up but all i know is that the rotors on the boardman are 180mm front and 160 rear..seen a few rx sets on here for sale but how will i know if they will fit?

    thanks for your time,Paul

Buy some Shimano SLX brakes without rotors and just swap them over, Merlin cycles were selling them for £109 ,had mine a few months now.The best brakes I’ve ever had.Had Formula Rx before I got the SLX brakes.

Hi Ricky, I’ve been using your RX’s for a while now and was wondering if the stock pads were more powerful?

hi Roberto, from what I can remember there wasn’t much difference, kevlar ones should bite a bit more but won’t last as long as sintere.I use to use organic pads from Superstar, which were great.

i agree with ricky, slx are great brakes. i’ve been using them for 2 years and much better than my rx’s{on my road 29er}. faultless in performance and easier to maintain.
