After our Evening Ride on Thursday 6th August it was apparrent that the nights are really drawing in at a pace………. 🙄 🙄

It can’t have been much after 2000hrs when we rode back into Stokesley and already most cars were driving with headlights on. 😯

Couple that with the fact that we are likely to be “holidaying” over the next 2 or 3 weeks and it won’t be long before our Evening Rides are consigned to Spring 2010. 🙄

Question is, what’s going to be the best way to replace these as we head into Autumn and Winter………. 😕 😕

Saturday mornings, Sunday mornings, afternoons, hire a hall and fill it with turbo trainers of a night…………… 😈

Or do we just take to the MTB’s…………

    Or what…………..

    😕 😕 😕

So we could look at Saturdays one week and a Sunday the next.

With a similiar list of starting points such as Yarm Station, The Sporting Lodge and Westbrooks at Stokesley. ❓

I’ll be up for some weekend rides Gunner. Going onto shifts will help me over the winter too.

I would prefer Sunday mornings. Once the clocks change then I think we will be looking at start time around 0900 rather than our summer start time of 0800.

My thoughts are a that we should look to do a couple of hours which will mean 30 to 40 miles. I think we should aim to keep a steady pace on the flat so we can have a bit chat and then have a bit of a free for all in the climbs before regrouping at the top. This should provide us with a base fitness to build on come the spring.

    What does everyone else think?

Not a bad idea Hugo, 0900hrs to 1100hrs let’s say for Winter rides would be about right, steady on the flat and a free for all on the climbs and re-group.

How would the Fox Covert be as another starting point for rides do you think.

Would they object to any riders aprking there do you think, I know they have a pretty big car park which is pretty well unused at the far end, and shouldn’t be a problem early on a Sunday. ❓

Fox Covert is a pretty central point for both people from Yarm and for people from this side of the river so i think it would make a decent meeting place. You are then out on to pretty quiet roads as you head up to Hilton. I can’t see using the far end of the car park being a problem especially at that time in the morning. If it is a problem then we can have a re-think.

What do you think about putting something up in Westbrooks to advertise the rides and pointing people towards the site?

Excellent idea, I’ll look into it as soon as is prctical.

Fox Covert is going to be one to add to the list then, and we’ll keep it in for the Summer, wouldn’t hurt if anyone fancies a “shandy” afterwards.

We usually finish the rides at 8-8.30pm and some of us have to ride home from there. Give it a few weeks and it will be dark at 8.30.

I rode home the other night when it was very dark, not too great on the ringroad around York but get down the smaller roads and it’s quite peaceful. It’s just the cold weather that will change that!
