I have been discussing this on the Konaworld forum also.

I found a Park Tool lock ring spanner with 5 teeth that would do the job perfectly – for £15.99

Hearing that the lock ring may be very tight and both lock ring and BB may have to be spun at the same time – makes me wonder if this isn’t the job for the experts? Does anyone have any experince of this ?

You do have to question whether it is worth buying a spanner for £16, only to find that you will have to take your bike into a bike shop to have the job done for whatever various reason.

I did have direct experience of this on my Marin Palisades Trail many, many years ago. That long ago I bought it from Armstrongs on Princes Road, who remembers them 🙄 🙄

I took the bike in to Biketraks who had just opened in Ayton and were obiously keen to please, the bracket, cup, lockring etc., etc., were well and truly seized as a result of water ingress and they ended up having to order in a special tool to get it off.

I’d get a quote from a reputable shop for the job and see if it justified the expense you’d have to fork out to do it yourself, while bearing in mind you may not be sucsessful 🙄 🙄
